Sparks fly over night of 'non-stop' music

Sparks fly over night of 'non-stop' music

AN all-night dance festival set to attract 15,000 clubbers is to be held at a Leeds beauty spot.

The Gatecrasher Summer Sound System event, on Spring Bank Holiday weekend, will see 13 hours of non-stop music from 5pm on Sunday May 27 until 6am the following morning.

Today Aberford Parish Council reacted with anger at plans for the festival in the grounds of historic Lotherton Hall. Leeds City Council own the hall and they granted the license for the event.

David Howson, chairman of Aberford Parish Council, said: "The villagers will be playing hell about this when they find out. It is the first we know of it.

The traffic and congestion will be bad and the noise goes on all night long. It could even be worse, depending on which way the wind blows.

"These all-night events mean that youngsters end up roaming the village and they are a pain.

"There is nothing we can do now. In recent years revellers smashed the fence down and some of the deer escaped from the grounds."

There will be six different stages with 100 DJs and performers.

Today promoters said 15,000 tickets had gone on sale and were selling fast.
A spokeswoman said: "After a four year break, the mother of all dance festivals is set to relaunch, back where it all began in 1999 at Lotherton Hall. It is set to be a truly spectacular event.

"Remember the best outdoor dance party you've ever been to and you still won't be close.

"Anticipate the beautiful, sweeping grounds of historic Lotherton Hall, decadent musical moments, a magical garden-party atmosphere, awe-inspiring video imagery, breathtaking lighting and sound throughout six themed arenas and you're getting closer.

"Designed by clubbers for clubbers, it promises to be the dance event of the year."

She added that the event will feature tech house, drum and bass, peak time club tracks, driving techno, explosive hard house, anthemic hands in the air trance, fresh funky house, deep and dirty electronica, blissed out beats, dreamy dusk melodies and everything else in between.

The spokeswoman added: "The area is quite remote and away from houses so there is generally no disturbance."

There will be DJs from around the world including well-known British names such as trance DJ Judge Jules, Fabio and Grooverider, Dave Pearce and talent from Leeds' own Federation nights. There will also be a Radio 1 stage.

World-renowned trance music DJ and producer Mauro Picotto also appears. His set will showcase his unique flavour of techno, house, electro and trance.

For full details visit the website. Tickets are priced £37.50 plus booking fee. Tickets are available from any HMV shop, the Ticketline on 08704 28 27 26 or the Gatecrasher web-site www.gatecrasher.com/summer or by calling 08704 28 27 26.

Green gets a grant

Aberford Parish Councilor, Jane Wheeler has recently secured a grant to rejuvenate the village green and has hit the local news in the process:

Green gets a grant

A PROJECT to revive Aberford's Village Green is to be boosted by a grant from Leeds city councillors.

Aberford & District Parish Council will receive £1,275 to dispose of an unsightly concrete rubbish bin and install a new planter at the southern end of the green.

It forms part of a huge effort by local people to transform the green, including plans for new fencing.

Coun Rachael Procter (Conservative, Harewood) said: "I'm delighted we were able to award these funds to help revitalise the village green.

"The parish council is working hard to breathe life back into this public space and has some exciting plans to make it more attractive for the community."

And Coun Ann Castle (Conservative, Harewood) added: "It's great news that we'll be seeing the back of the concrete bin. It does nothing for the green and has become a health hazard."
