10 TIPS FOR SHOWING

1.   Don’t be intimidated.  Whilst there are some very experienced exhibitors at the show, it is possible to win in any class and beginners’ luck often occurs.

2.   Read the schedule carefully in this brochure, and enter the correct number of items in each class on the entry form.  The best five runners beans in the world won’t win the six runner beans class!

3.   For classes which specify more than one item the uniformity of all the items is important: three average but very similar potatoes will normally beat three excellent potatoes that differ greatly in shape and size.

4.   Marrows are tested for suppleness, so make sure yours is not too hard.

5.   Runner beans should be crisp and break cleanly when snapped.

6.   If you live in Aberford don’t forget about the “Aberford Residents Only’ classes (61 to 67).

7.   Flowers - cut at the last minute to ensure fresh and bright blooms.

8.   Open classes are well sponsored so give your artist flare a free reign.

9.   Remember to use caster sugar and raspberry jam when making your Victoria sponge cake.

10.   Encourage children to enter as many of the   children’s classes as possible (87-91)
